Women for Peace, the Chicago chapter of Women Strike for Peace, was founded in 1961. The original purpose of the group was to demand the banning of above-ground nuclear tests because of the danger of radioactive fallout. Their actions helped lead to the Partial Test Ban Treaty in 1963, which ended atmospheric nuclear tests.
